ECTEL to hold consulting forums in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis

ECTEL Media Release

The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) will hold two consulting forums in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis next week. On Tuesday November 15th and Wednesday November 16th, an ECTEL/NTRC Consultative Forum will be convened.

The forum will discuss a number of current issues and work in which ECTEL and the NTRCs are involved. These include spectrum management, licensing enforcement and consumer education and awareness. The two-day event is the second for the year bringing together ECTEL and the National Commissions to discuss regulatory and operational issues.

Managing Director of ECTEL, Embert Charles, says the event is aimed at strengthening the organization’s approach to harmonized delivery of services in ECTEL Member States and is among the planning tools used for operational and strategic planning. On this occasion, and as part of ECTEL’s commitment to empowering consumers, Charles says emphasis will be placed on the development of a comprehensive and consolidated approach to consumer education.

Later in the week, the seventy-seventh meeting of the ECTEL Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, 17th November 2016 from 9:00 a. m. at the Ocean Terrace Inn, in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Persons interested in observing the proceedings of the meeting may contact the Office of the Managing Director of ECTEL, or the NTRC in St. Kitts and Nevis, so that suitable arrangements can be made. Observers will be required to register upon arrival and to remain in the area designated for the public.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an International Organisation dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance among independent and non-independent countries in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS came into being on June 18th 1981, when seven Eastern Caribbean countries signed a treaty agreeing to cooperate with each other while promoting unity and solidarity among its Members. The Treaty became known as the Treaty of Basseterre, so named in honour of the capital city of St. Kitts and Nevis where it was signed. The OECS today, currently has eleven members, spread across the Eastern Caribbean comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
